Hello Listers The following has been transcribed by Jane from the edition of the Belfast Commercial Chronicle
12 February 1817 Tithes The Rev. Fielding OULD v. Geo. WARREN, Esq. This cause, which was instituted by Mr. OULD, as Rector of the Parish of Killagan, in the County of Antrim, for the recovery of the Tithes of Mr. WARREN's crops in that Parish, came on to be heard in the Court of Exchequer, on the 6th instant; when a Decree was pronounced by the Court, unanimously, against Mr. WARREN, with costs. Extract of a letter from Dundalk, dated 7th Feb. 1817: - the house of a smith, called Owen BYRNE, at Channel Rock Cross, was last night maliciously set on fire. His daughter alarmed the family, and took her two children out, but returned (it is supposed for a purse with £30 in it), when, horrible to relate, the roof fell in upon her, and before the fire was extinguished, she was almost totally consumed. An inquest was held upon her remains by Paul PARKS, Esq. and the Jury were of opinion that the house was certainly set on fire through malice. A well-known dealer, Brian BAWN, of Mulhollum, dropped dead on the 8th inst. on his return from Dundalk to his house at Moira Castle. Meeting To-Morrow. The SOVEREIGN having declined to call a Town Meeting for the purpose of Petitioning Parliament, we, the undersigned, request a MEETING of the INHABITANTS of this Town and Neighbourhood, at the Brown Linen-Hall, on Thursday the 13th February, at Twelve o'Clock, to take into consideration the propriety of PETITIONING for a REFORM of the REPRESENTATION in the COMMONS HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT, which appears to us as the only effectual remedy for all our grievances - as that measure alone likely to be efficacious for promoting the Peace and Prosperity of our Country, and alleviating the universal distress, occasioned by an unnecessary, ruinous, and unusually protracted War. -Belfast, 4th February, 1817 Sam.
