Amazingly, I came across a US document today that actually gives a person’s place in Ireland, complete with townland. Honestly, I’ve never run across another one. Perhaps this won’t be of help to anyone on the list, but I’ll post anyway.
A Bridget McGinn (c.1837—1897) made a will a few months before her death. She died in Providence, Rhode Island, 2 March 1887 at about 60 years of age; she was unmarried. She had made the will in June 1887 where she lived – Wallingford, New Haven, Connecticut. Her main bequests were to her “sister, Mrs. Ann Goodwin, living in Providence, Rhode Island,” and her “sister, Mrs. Jane McKenna, who lives in Ireland, county Tyrone, Parish of Cloghes (sic) [Clogher], Town of Lisnamoghery.” [Perhaps Lisnamaghery]. I came across this in my search for Ann McGinn Goodwin (c.1830—1914), wife of Edward Goodwin, son of James and Mary Goodwin, also immigrants from Tyrone, though I know not where exactly. Besides their son Edward, they had a daughter Sarah Goodwin who married in Providence a Patrick Donnelly. Best, Loree Muldowney.
