New Zealand Colonist 31 March 1843 Died, on the morning of Saturday last, (Jan. 28th) at his residence, Epsom, in the 26 year of his age, Mr. William COOKE 3rd son of the late Nathaniel COOKE, of Cookmount, County Monaghan, Ireland. It may be remembered that in the 1st number of our Journal we announced the demise of a brother of the deceased, aged 24 years in Auckland, on 5 Nov. 1842; both gentlemen came to this colony in the 'Mandarin', and were highly connected. Should this sorrowful announcement reach their friends through our columns, it will be some consolation to know that both received every attention, both religious, medical, and careful nursing. Since the death of his brother, James, the more immediate subject of the present notice, had the grave handsomely and substantially enclosed, apparently little expecting so early a doom to himself.
The New Zealander 1 Nov. 1845 A Brave Man Died, at the Royal Hospital of Kilmainham, on the 23 May, Sergeant John GRAHAM, formerly in the light company of the 2nd battalion of Coldstream guards, the individual selected by his Grace the Duke of Wellington as "the bravest of the brave" in the desperate combat at Waterloo, in order to profit by the generous offer of the Rev. Mr, Norcross, rector of Framlingham, to confer a pension, during life, upon the soldier most distinguished in the brigade of Guards on that glorious day. After the most minute enquiry, carried on by Sir John Byng's directions, the laurel was awarded to an Irishman, John GRAHAM, a native of Cloona, County of Monaghan. _______________________________________________ [email protected] UlsterAncestry Mailing List Searchable Archives: https://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/ http://lists.cotyrone.com/mailman/listinfo/ulsterancestry Website: https://cotyrone.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/CoTyroneIrelandGenealogy/
