The better the deal, the more likely it is, I would think. If I had
stolen a laptop, I would want to unload it ASAP, and would price it
appropriately - after all, it's not like there's anything but pure
profit for the thief either way.

Or, think of it like this: people tend to overvalue their computers
compared to the market, at least in my experience (my favorite so far:
P-133 w/ 15 inch monitor: $200, because it's a "good word processor
computer"). If someone's selling it real low, well, that's a warning
sign - either it's hot, or something's wrong with it.
