Hi all,

After updating from SuSE 9.2 to 9.3 online (via yast, and the update included
a new kernel, 2.6.11), everything seems to work OK, except the sound.

Using alsaconf gives the exact same behavior as it used to, but after the
setup, when the test sound is supposed to be played, the messages are
what they're supposed to be, but I can't hear anything (although alsamixer
shows normal volume settings).

After looking at boot.msg, I saw these suspicious lines:

Symbols match kernel version 2.6.11.
No module symbols loaded - kernel modules not enabled.

Also suspiciously, when I try to configure the sound via yast, the program
hangs.

I think something with the kernel is not right, any hints about how to fix
it (like a recompile, some boot option, some weird conflicts with the older
kernel)?

The card is an Intel 82801DB/DBL/DBM(ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 and
the driver alsaconf loads (or tries to) is intel8x0, but I'm confident that it
doesn't have any problems, since it works in the same machine under windows
and has been working under linux for a year.

Thanks in advance

Chris
