i tried parted to partition the disk, but had more than my share of nightmare with it. My nightmare is on http://www.astro.umd.edu/~teuben/linux/laptop/dell-810m.html i'm not sure if i've ever understood the whole story, so if you read this, part of it may have been pure stupidity. But on the other hand, i don't think i did anything out of the ordinary. Our dept. does have a copy of partitionmagic, and I think i would try that again next time ;-) peter
