Not that Linux > users count that much, it's just an odd policy.
i have a vaio laptop and i repartitioned the hard disk and installed linux. then i tried to install windows 2000 (2 years ago) and after a spectacular failure finding drivers and all, i used the reinstall cd to restore it to factory settings. it just dumped all the stuff on c:\ (the first partition) and didn't touch the others. the original c:\ was 30G and the new one was 5G, but it didn't even complain about that. so i'm not sure if it is a microsoft thing. aravind.
