Thanks for telling me; I had not known that 4 and 5 were not compatible. I checked Heimdal, and it only understands version 5. To get my tickets, I think that I need to obtain a version 4 implementation like krb-kth (4) or mit kerberos (both 4 and 5), and build an afslog or kinit using the version 4 libraries. This is despite that protocol 4 is ancient, obsolete, and difficult to secure.
