Hi everyone - hope you're enjoying the new year.

I've been working on integrating our Samba file server to use our
existing LDAP system for authentication. Both boxes are running Fedora
Core 4. My question is, what's this sambaSID value that the
sambaSamAccount requires? It appears to be some kind of unique value for
each user, but how do I generate it properly? I'm _not_ trying to make
the LDAP box a backend for our (few) Windows machines, just trying to
get the file server to use it for authentication.

Explanations, links, and even references to good books would be
appreciated. The library isn't too far away :).

Side question: does anyone know of, or hopefully use, a good outfit that
sells commodity 2U rackmounts sans OS? We've got some needs where a
rackmount would be a perfect fit, but we don't need the enterprise CPUs
and mobos, e.g., an Athlon64 fits the bill just fine. And since we're
putting Linux on these things, a pre-installed OS is just a hassle.
