The first data point I would try is testing both cards on another system just to make sure it's not the cards. I could be (possible, but I don't know how likely) that they are both damaged or even your USB bus is bad. This way you can tell if it's the cards or your machine.
If the cards work on another system, I would try booting off a knoppix cd on the same hardware to see if they work there. This will tell you if it's a hardware or software problem on your machine. Once you have that info, it should be easier to diagnose. Good luck, - Rob .
