i have the Netgear PS101, mine has 2 ports. I casually looked, but
didn't see any that had 4. Might have to buy two then?

Hello,
Somewhat realted. I'm looking for a cheap print server too. I am stuck
with some older OS's QNIX, OS2, Windows 3.1, and others. I am looking for
a serial port print server or a serial/parallel combo. I have 9 differnt
systems that were sending alarms to individual printers (Epson LQ570e's )
on each system. These are dot matrix form feed printers.
I would like to send all alarms to a networked HP 4200n. Can anyone
direct to me where I can find such a device. I'm not srue how all this
will integrate, but I would love to get rid of all those dot matirx
printers.

related perhaps, btu I'm using a Keyspan 4 port USB-Serial adapter, which just
works as advertised.
on google i found http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdev.php?id=2709
which claims there is a usblp driver, which indeed gives me lots of matches
in the /lib/modules tree's i've got:
locate usblp
another option, perhaps much more useful in my mind, it get one of those cheap
printer servers, ethernet on one end, 1 or 2 parallel ports on the other side.
automatically puts your ancient printers available as network printers on your
local network. it's what i'm using.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Seems there are
adapters, but how well do they work? Do they tend to be Windows-only?
It's for a laptop so maybe I can find a PCMCIA parallel port card.
