Software Design Engineer
Location: Maryland - Germantown
Group: DSPS
Degree Requirements: BSEE or BS/MSCS
Calling all Linux gurus! We're searching for an expert to design and
develop embedded Linux applications. This engineer will work as a member
of our Network Support Package (NSP) team within TI's Software Platform
Technology Center (SPTC).
This engineer will be expected to keep management informed of technical,
schedule, and other challenges and, to the extent possible, propose
solutions to correct problems. Specific responsibilities include:
- Fixing defects and providing ongoing enhancements to the existing
embedded software components.
- Keeping close and responsive interaction with the customers and
other TI teams within DSP Systems to quickly fulfill their specific
product requirements.
- Worldwide travel to TI and customer sites as the business
requirements dictate.
The ideal candidate will have experience in management and networking
application development in C/Linux. Experience developing embedded Linux
applications used in Residential Gateways (home routers) devices with
limited memory resources is needed. Development experience in C is a plus.
Strong C development skills and networking protocols implementation
knowledge are required. This engineer must be able to follow the
development process, write functional and design specifications, as well
as unit test plans to successfully pass internal and external reviews
and approvals. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must.

Primary Responsibilities: Design and development of real-time embedded
software for telecommunication systems; Contributing to and having
strong technical understanding of software design on projects involved with.
Supporting & Secondary Responsibilities: Meeting schedule commitments;
Supporting customer developments; Keeping management informed regrading
technical schedule and other problems and to the extent possible
proposing solutions to correct these problems.
Management /Organization Skills: Ability to perform under aggressive
deadlines. Ability to work closely with teams located in different parts
of the world. Good time management skills.
Opportunities for Improvements: Opportunities exist to improve our core
VoP software to incorporate innovative features that help to distinguish
our products from the competition as well as incorporating support for
leading edge processors and processor architectures.
Complex Tasks: Applying good programming skills and judgement to
maximize software reusability across various processor architectures.
Software portability across multiple OS multiple processors. Debugging
silicon issues, bringing upon VOP software on new silicon, verifying
software on silicon emulation platforms.
Technical Abilities: C programming skills for embedded real-time
applications and device drivers; strong problem solving skills;
structured software design methodology.
Team & People Skills: Work as a member of a software development team.
Interfacing with the various software product development teams,
hardware designers, and silicon designers. Must be able to clearly
communicate technical issues.
Projects & Deliverables: Innovative software solutions for a broad range
of VOP products like Enterprise VOP gateways.

BSEE/MSEE with a concentration on electrical engineering; experience
