Interested in putting your Linux experience to work?

The Particle Astrophysics group in the Physics department is
looking for a student assistant to help with the maintenance of
our computer systems. The PA group is active in two major
experiments: the IceCube neutrino observatory (icecube.wisc.edu)
and the Milagro gamma-ray observatory (www.lanl.gov/milagro).

Computing resources for these two experiments consist of ~80 computer
systems (RedHat Enterprise Linux) and ~90 TB of disk space. Job duties
would include regular OS upgrades and maintenance, hardware
troubleshooting, new system installations, and other general
computer lab tasks. We are looking for someone familiar with
Linux, ideally with experience with: NFS, LDAP, hardware support,
and Linux networking with RedHat Linux.

Job would be a year round positions, with part time hours during
the school year and full time hours available during the summer and
breaks. Hours are flexible, with scheduling around your academic
commitments, but we are looking for someone to spend
~18-20 hours/week while school is in session.

If interested, please send a resume and contact information
to Erik Blaufuss (blaufuss at icecube.umd.edu, x5-6077)
