Here is the schedule so far for the fall:
Friday, Sept 1st 4pm: Revolution OS in CSIC 1151 plus short lecture on "What is Linux, and why should I use it?"
Thursday, Sept 7th 7pm: Basic Linux Usage
Saturday, Sept 9th 3pm: Installfest- since this generally takes a good chunk of time, a Saturday afternoon should be a nicer time than Thursday night.
Thursday, Sept 21st 7pm: Using the command line: a little bash scripting, how to get around on Grace and glue, ect...
Thursday, Oct 5th 7pm: Gaming under Linux
This is part of the "intro" series. I'll be printing up flyers to be handed out in CMSC131, 132 and 212. I'm still looking for someone to do the last one- any takers? We'll also be wanting to continue this series with other presentations. Any ideas?
In addition, we'll be having meetings on more advanced topics. I'm still looking for people with interesting things to say to step up. So far, however, we have one scheduled:
Thursday October 19th, 7pm: Mono
We've got CSIC 1121 every Thursday at 7pm, so I'd like to have more "advanced" level meetings- hopefully another one in September, November, and December if we can find topics and presenters. Any takers? I recently had some experience doing programming for Microchip PIC devices on Linux- it's a bit OT, but I'm happy to share: any interest?
In addition, there should be a kickoff meeting with ACM and AWC, but this has not been scheduled yet.
To some up, we'll be making a big effort during the beginning of the semester to get people in the lower-level CS classes hooked on Linux and F/OSS, and I'm looking for presentations.
Any more ideas?
~John
