So this isn't so much a linux question as a more general internet and email question. I currently have a linux box setup to handle multiple domains for email. I have two domains involved in this current issue, apl.bluenodes.com and bluenodes.com. bluenodes.com has an A record pointing to my IP as well as a MX record pointing to bluenode.com with an MX value of 5.
apl.bluenodes.com has a CNAME entry pointing to bluenodes.com.

So the issue is that I have several mailing lists setup at apl.bluenodes.com but for whatever reason when people from umd send to it, every now and then umd changes the domain to bluenodes.com instead of leaving it as apl.bluenodes.com. See bellow for the info on the bounce -- its not that the user is entering it incorrectly, UMD servers change the destination domain before they send it for some reason.

I was wondering if this has to do with there not being an MX record for apl.bluenodes.com or if it may be something weird on umd's side or what. Can I even have an CNAME entry and an MX entry for apl.bluenodes.com or is that an invalid setting?

Michael
