I tried this before and I couldn't post, even though the software says I'm subscribed. Here's a second try.

My s.o. of 22 years (!) standing is a fanatical ice skating fan. This fall there is supposed to be coverage of some or other ice skating competition available on the Internet, but not cable or regular TV.

This leads to the following questions. What hard- and software does she need to record video off the Internet or cable TV, edit it, and then burn DVD's?

I know she needs a humongous hard drive and a DVD burner. I also suspect a fast processor, maybe a multi-processor box, but now fast and how multi?

I just don't have a clue about any of this.

My own Linux box, put together to do audio, has an easy-to-open case so I can swap out /dev/hdb, where the WAV files reside. We think that would be a good approach for her, too.

Thanks for any light you can shed.
