The SE is the primary Sun technical interface responsible for understanding business requirements based on customer interviews, proactiveinformation collection, physical/logical architecture reviews andthe subsequent solution recommendation based on the collected data. Thesuccessful candidate will also be expected to create strongrelationships with Sun's third party partners and provide solutionreviews as needed to ensure Sun's, its customers, and its partnerssuccess.The SE works closely with multiple account management teams andclients and is a critical member of the win team. The successful candidate is a self-starter with the ability toinfluence and accelerate the transition from transactional to strategicsolution selling. Key responsibilities include: - Influencing the technical and architectural decisions at the highestlevels within the account - In conjunction with the Account Manager assist with the creation of newbusiness opportunities for Sun. - Responsibility for the quality of the overall technical solution - Maintaining broad technical, architectural, industry, and competitiveknowledge - Has expertise in one or more of: Software, Systems (SPARC and x64), or StorageTravel within territory will be required (MD/VA/DE/DC). *MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:* Attend Sun functions and marketing events as required. *REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:* Broad enterprise level technical knowledge including Operating Systems with emphasis on Solaris, system configuration with emphasis on SPARC, AMD, and Intel based systems, network infrastructure, and storage. Experience participating in customer engagement planning and supporting sales efforts. Demonstrated ability to articulate alternatives in terms of cost, benefit, and risk where multiple solutions exist. Demonstrated ability to independently create and present highly technical business solutions in a manner appropriate for both technical end users and non-technical exeutive management. Good presentation skills are required. *PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE:* Broad technical knowledge of Sun products and solutions and the overallIT environment. Knowledge of competitive environments and alternativetechnology solutions/approaches. Knowledge of Sun's middleware stack,Java Enterprise System, Systems and Storage, both Sun and competitive offerings,coupled with the abilityto effectivelyposition Sun's offering vs competitive products will be strong pluses.
