I'd like to download a CD image of the Hardy install disk to have
available as a live CD. OTOH, I'd like to use the update manager
upgrade tool to switch to the new version (since I'm not entirely sure
what all it's doing). I can get an ISO fast either from on campus or
using the torrent, whereas I know the repos will be slammed. Is there
any way to use that CD to do a proper update (as opposed to a "fresh"
install)?

I think this is possible if I just want to do an apt-get dist-upgrade
(because I can just add the CD as a repo), but I have no idea if the
official Ubuntu upgrade script does extra necessary stuff. It's more
important to me that the upgrade happen smoothly than that it happen
immediately, so my default attitude is to wait, but it seems like it
really ought to be possible to use the CD image with the upgrade tool
and get the best of both worlds.

Any ideas?

Nick
