Well, I guess I should say something, then.
UMLUG hasn't been an organization with very well-defined roles lately.
The four of us who've been officers this semester have all been active
in organizing events, doing publicity work, etc., as our participation
was needed, but I've spent a lot of time managing another function of
the LUG ...
My main responsibility, as you could conclude from traffic on the
mailing list, is the free software mirror, which now serves nine
distributions and five other packages for UM students and the public.
This gives us high-speed access to new software, even on release days,
and provides advertising for the university.
A lot of work has gone into the mirror, including getting access to
upstream sites, watching the server for failure, and programming new
functionality into the web/rsync servers (mostly so we don't saturate
the university's Internet links). I've also worked with the Fedora
project to help them add a new feature that should make updates on all
university campuses quite a bit faster.
I'd really appreciate your vote for me for VP so I can continue to
help organize our events (speakers, parties, and so on) and manage our
group's most visible service.
