OK, since y'all are complaining that it's too quiet in here, I'll do
my best to remedy that. ;-)
I'm running SuSE Linux 10.5, which I know is ancient. I have been
using an Ensoniq 1370 sound card for years with no problems. Recently
I tried to switch to an M-Audio 24/196 card. The software recognized
the card, but would not configure it, either via Yast or alsaconf.
So I replaced the ES1370. That gets recognized just fine. If I run
alsaconf either in a terminal window or from a character-cell
interface as root, it modifies the configuration files (the times and
dates change) and everything works as it used to--until the next
re-boot. Obviously I need to do something else to make the
configuration "permanent." Could someone please suggest what that
might be? I have tried to figure this out on my own, with zero success.
Thanks.
