Hi, some things where the unattended-gui can help out: - replace the windows perl installation (we have a new control script) so that the perl installation is obsolete - we have also build an own linux-cd wich provides the following features: + makes it possible to install windows without dosemu and perl + provide hardcoded ip configuration (no dhcp required) + linux screen reader, speakup support + possible to install XP 64 bit + better support for patches/scripts + script to easy replace the kernel (at the moment we have 3 different kernel running - gentoo-sources|vanilla-sources|mm-sources) + knoppix hardware detection/ force module loading + error reporting (collect all suitable informations from the machine) + possible Z-SHARES: sshfs, smbfs(deprecated because of cifs), cifs, nfs, local(wich makes it possible to place all the stuff on a dvd for example) + profile support + logging + ntldr patches + direct parted support (new partition layouts) - database based scripts with language support -> so it is possible to update the scipts from one language only.... - ...
The scripts in a database gives you the availability: + all people can add software (if you provide on global gui installation with all scripts) + generate the scripts for unattended direct from the DB to the filesystem + download the software to the right place automaticly is possible + you can hold all versions in the database (version support integrated) + with an global installation of the gui it is also possible to install the software without having an environment, this can go in this way: 1) crate a little script which controls the installation (wemerge http://unattended.technikz.de/index.php/Tools:wemerge.cmd) 2) the script connects to the global database and gets the install informations 3) the script automatical download the software (mybe as tar.gz or zip file) and extract it to %TEMP% 4) start the installation from %TEMP% 5) done -> no environment but unattended software installation which is portable to every place in the world(with an internet connection) + ... maybe you have more ideas There are a lot of new features in the the next release, for example now its possible to pack a software with the scripts on one iso with an autostart which can be run also in a normal user account (asking for the administrator name/password). So its also possible to create with one click a cd with all windows updates and the installation script which checks if the software is already installed (and skips the installation if so) and install the software "unattended".... So just ask, we have a lot of knowledge here (not only linux also M$). And there is also a wiki available with some documentation: http://unattended.technikz.de/index.php/Documentation So at the moment it is also possible to run the GUI without unattended, but this might be that what you dont want - a fork. But its not really a fork because we have written the most stuff from scratch.... but the (great-) idea is the same. greetings mario ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
