About the only things special I did was to install gcc-4.1 rather than gcc-4.3 which is now the default compiler. Just make sure that gcc -v says that it is 4.1.x. Otherwise glibc wouldn't build for me. Then there are the *-devel packages that need to be installed. Some of them were already installed on my system so I don't have a complete list. However, I think these packages names should be exactly the same as the ones you use for etch. /bin/sh in Lenny is a standard POSIX compliant shell but is not bash. By default, make uses /sbin/sh and there is one bashism left in the Makefile. I'm planning on posting a patch for it, but since all it does is delete a few files, you can just continue for now. > currently I use Debian Etch since I thought that Lenny wasn't released. They are currently in deep freeze. Unless there is something drastically wrong with the candidate installer, I would expect Lenny to release in about a week or so. Check what your /etc/apt/sources.list file says. If it says "stable" rather than "etch" you could be looking at a significant upgrade later this month.
