I too thought that perhaps this motherboard was not working correctly, but
this did not make sense to me as this machine was an old users machine that
I was going to rebuild using the unattended system. So I booted the machine
with the old OS the previous user was using and it worked fine. The
ethernet card that is. So, I doubt that this is the issue. Unless perhaps
there could be an issue with the card not working correctly in DOS, but that
seems like a stretch.

Subject: RIF: [Unattended] CDROM Boot fails w/ 3com EtherLink 10/100 PCI NIC

I experienced the same just yesterday on a p3b Asus board with the same
network card. Then I Did some hardware testing with a proper diagnostic PCI
card and found the motherboard was not working properly, PCI bus was faulty.
Moved the card on another motherboard and all went ok. Maybe the same may
apply to you. Michelangelo

Oggetto: [Unattended] CDROM Boot fails w/ 3com EtherLink 10/100 PCI
NIC (3C905B-TX)

        Greetings,

I just upgraded to 2.7a last night. I am testing out the new boot
cd with a
HP Kayak XA. There is a 3com EtherLink 10/100 PCI NIC (3C905B-TX)
nic
        installed.

When I boot to the CD and am presented with the "Choose your network
driver"
prompt I first tried the el90x (3com 3c59x/3c90x family of PCI and
CardBus
adapters) driver and was surprised to receive the following message:

        A:\>NET INITIALIZE /DYNAMIC
3Com Etherlink PCI DOS NDIS driver v5.2.4
ERROR: Network adapter not found or not responding.
ERROR: Try using SLOTENABLE driver keyword in PROTOCOL.INI.
ERROR: Initialization failure. Driver will not be installed.
        Press any key to continue...

I then rebooted the machine and tried the undis3c "Universal"
(PXE/UNDI)
driver and received the following message:

        A:\>NET INITIALIZE /DYNAMIC
        3Com Universal NDIS driver v1.00
        Copyright (c) 2000, 3Com Corporation
UNDI not found in the system.
        Press any key to continue...

I would have thought that one of these drivers would boot the
system, but
        no. Any thoughts?

        Michael
