I too thought that perhaps this motherboard was not working correctly, but this did not make sense to me as this machine was an old users machine that I was going to rebuild using the unattended system. So I booted the machine with the old OS the previous user was using and it worked fine. The ethernet card that is. So, I doubt that this is the issue. Unless perhaps there could be an issue with the card not working correctly in DOS, but that seems like a stretch.
