Hello Chris,

Here is how you can make a boot disk for a new network card.
First, you need to get WinImage from http://www.winimage.com/download.htm. It is a shareware.

Open up an existing boot disk with WinImage. For example, you can open the file E100B.IMG.
Select all the files in the image, and use the "Extract" function from the "Image" menu. Put the files into a new folder.
Now you can go into the "net" subfolder of the folder you just created, delete the E100B.DOS file and replace it with the .DOS driver for your new network card. In the case of the D-Link DFE-530TX, I think it's called DLKFET.DOS.

Then you need to edit the files PROTOCOL.INI and SYSTEM.IN_ and change the driver name in each of these.

In the PROTOCOL.INI file, the change wiil be from this line :
 DRIVERNAME = E100B$
to :
 DRIVERNAME = DLKFET$
In the SYSTEM.IN_, the change will be from :
 NETCARD=E100B.DOS
to :
 NETCARD=DLKFET.DOS
Now you still have to modify the disk image. Make a new copy of it and name it appropriately (something like DLKFET.IMG). Open it with WinImage.
Enter the "net" folder and select the files E100B.DOS, PROTOCOL.INI and SYSTEM.IN_. Delete them ("image" menu > "delete file").
The last step will be to insert the new DLKFET.DOS, PROTOCOL.INI ans SYSTEM.IN_ files into the image. You can do this by just drag and dropping the files from the Windows Explorer to WinImage.

Now you can make your image into an actual floppy using the "disk > format and write disk" menu option.

Regards,

Sylvain.

Objet : [Unattended] Syntax error

Hi,

I have recently looked into unattended as it would save me quite a lot of time at work.

I have 2 problems at the moment:

My company uses only D-link dfe530tx network cards and I can’t get them to work.

I have found the .dos driver but I have no way/understanding of making the floppy image. If anyone could provide me with one that would be great!

I did get some results with a Realtek card (but I have only one of them I got from home) but I only got as far as entering the network resource location, username and password and it always fails to mount Z: drive. It says syntax error and something like type “NET USE /?” for proper usage. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I have tried using several different accounts local admin with full access; guests with read access, etc.

I am trying to install windows 2000 pro with v32 of unattended using the bootable cd image.

The net driver seems to work fine by all the info given and dhcp is ok.

Thanks In Advance,

Chris.
