So, I've been tinkering with 4.2rc2 today. The linuxboot hack for the hard drive on hdc works fine. I'm now able to fully run linuxboot on these dell inspiron 5150 laptops. The dos boot disk (4.2rc2) still has major (failure) issues on these laptops (seems due to memory mgt). I have confirmed (as have others) that changes in 4.2rc2 have no effect on the DOSemu linuxboot issues in vmware workstation 4.5. However, note that the linuxboot DOES work in vmware workstation 4.0.1 and vmware GSX 2.5.1! I suspect it will similarly not work with GSX 3 (I don't have my GSX 3 environment running quite yet. bummer).

It looks like the hard disk is > hdc and you are only looking for hda and sda? Yeah. Looks like they connected the primary hard drive to the secondary IDE controller. Not that there's anything wrong with that... This is easy to hack around and harder to fix "right", since hdc is usually a CD-ROM drive. Still, I have uploaded a 4.2-rc2 which should work for you to <http://unattended.sourceforge.net/testing/>. Please try its Linux boot disk and let me know how it goes.
