re : smartdrv

yes, it _only_ runs properly
( no missing files, or "can't copy cdaudio.sys" )
if you comment out the smartdrv call in autoexec.bat ...

allright, i did convert everything to lower-case, and now the setup seems to find my
i386 - folders, scans them and lets me choose.

... but, no matter what i choose, after the editing dialogue, nothing happens
( thats when i choose to continue and run c:\netinst\doit.bat )

first of all, for the dos boot iso, the selection of an umb provider
in bootdisk/config.sys has to be changed from emm386.exe to
umbpci.sys, else the network drivers wont load properly.

I will probably make umbpci the default again in the next release.

then, copying the os setup runs well, but without having disabled
smartdrv in bootdisk/autoexec.bat windows setup will complain about
missing files or files it can't access ( e.g. cdaudio.sys )
afterwards.

This is a new one on me. Are you saying it works if you disable
smartdrv?

using the linux boot cd as alternative then works better for the
network drivers but when it comes to O/S selection it simply prompts
me i could not find any O/Ses ..

Please see this thread from yesterday on the unattended-devel list:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg00272.html

And see if it looks familiar.

In short, the Linux CIFS driver (which we use as a fallback)
introduces some case-sensitivity into the picture. If you rename all
of the files on your OS distribution point to lower case, it should
help. (And I wrote a script to automate this.)

I will add all this to the FAQ soon.
