I was using a tool called "netdom.exe".
However, you still need a cleartext password somewhere, because the tool must authentificate to the DC as well.


However, "netdom.exe" can join any running computer to any domain, as long as you have appropriate permissions for both the DC and the computer to join to the domain. With the pass-through authentification of Windows, you might wind up with netdom.exe call, that does not require a password, but you still need a cleartext password in unattend.txt for the local administrative account(s). E.g. if you feel that the domain password is to be kept secret, you could run some sort of service on the DC itself and "trigger" the netdom.exe call with the local admin password.
