I tried several "solutions" with smartdrv, but i couldnt get it to work,the
installation either stalled at the same stage every time, or skipped a lot of files during filetransfer.

This may not be related, but I've seen this "getting stuck" thing quite a few times before, even when booting and installing from an XP CD. The install would hang at some point before GUI mode - but after 5-10 minutes it would continue after all. It happened on a lot of Compaq pc's with CD's I knew not to be faulty, so I concluded it was an incompabilty problem with the hardware.
It could be worth waiting at least 20 minutes before concluding it's actually stuck. Hope it works.
