hi there,
i found the unattended site very useful for my research of the different
installers and there switches.

i've been working on unattended installations since win95 and created an
win98 version wich installs completely (incl. hardware detection and
drivers) in less than 10min without using an image. but now its time for
XP and i went the usual way (i386\winnt.sif).
because the xp setup consumes much time when extracting SINGLE files
from the medium in the early textsetup i tried to skip this step by
extracting all these files from a single zip archive - this gives an
incredible speedup for the things happening before the first reboot.
unfortunately i dont find a simple way to automaticaly write the
bootsector to harddisk so that the gui setup can continue after reboot.
for win98 the command 'sys c:' does the trick under good old DOS.

so my question is: is there a possibility to do (what fixboot in
recovery console does) with a DOS-Tool or an PE system?

additionally i would like to mention a project i'm working on for a
longer time: the Installator. (download under www.installator.net for free)

this tool can install software and settings under windows and has the
ability to make backups (and also can remove software).

install packages are listet in a tree view with checkboxes and can be
managed very easy.
each package consists of an XML file wich can contain various
information, such as:
-extract files to system folders
-run setups with unattend switches
-run msi installations (with properties)
-create shortcuts
-write registry keys
-a.m.m.
it can handle dependencies of packages and use an expandable pool of
keywords for system pathes and other things (e.g. $user$, $startmenu$,
$windowsdir$)

my tool is not very popular because i dont advertised it. but i am sure
it is very useful for people working on unattended installations.
perhaps you would like to mention the installator on the unattended page
because it fits in the category between MSI installer and AutoIt.

regards

Martin
