You can, and it does have it's advantages.

With most of the hotfixes/updates with unattended, there is a reboot after each 
install. If you slipstream them you will bypass all the rebooting.

Personally I only slipstreamed in sp2 for xp, I wasn't about to take the time 
to do all the hotfixes.

I think adding the drivers is the same as $oem$\$1

Slipstreaming is very easy since it works directly on the OS setup tree. 
Unattended also has some pretty good scripts to make driver-installation 
easy.

Never used nLite, most of the patches have a slipstream option. Check 
out the MS KB.

I don't know about nLite, but slipstreaming shouldn't care what your 
install method is, it just patches the OS setup tree. The 
unattend.txt/Unattended method is, I think, better because you can 
script it to install patches, applications, drivers, etc that can not be 
slipstreamed.
