I have successfully used HFSlip ( http://www.vorck.com/hfslip.html and http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showforum=129 ) to slipstream Windows updates to speed up Unattended install process.
HFSlip creates slipstreamed Windows source to directory SOURCESS which is ready to be moved into OS directory. The software has bells and whistles, but it makes its main job - slipstreaming Windows patches - quite well. There is no need to create a install cd, just skip those sections of HFSlip instructions. The forum is very active and new versions are frequently released. I activate Windows Software Updates by using auconfig.pl (we have a local WSUS server). This way Windows XP takes care of those updates that are published after running HFSLIP and they are installed a couple of minutes after Unattended install process is ready. IMHO there are several pros of using HFSLIP + WSUS to handle updates: - no need to update and manage Unattended scripts for Windows updates - it is a lot faster to integrate patches once in a while to the install share rather than applying same patches during each install - saves dozens of reboots compared to default Unattended way to do it - if you like, you can have both slipstreamed and original versions in OS directory PS. I think it would be a good idea to copy tips and tricks from mailing lists to Unattended's main documentation. It is more difficult to locate information in mailing list threads than if they were organized in a FAQ.
