Ooops. Sent to Matt only before I think... Doh!
Anyway, I've already tried erasing the disk completely (well the first 
part anyway). Didn't help.

I've now also tried choosing the 12G c:, rest d: option in unattended's 
initial setup part and leaving the format_cmd option out of my 
unattended.txt and letting unattended make it up for itself. Didnt work.
This time however, I did get a very different partition layout since I 
didnt force my own fdisk command. This time I got a 4GB FAT32 primary 
set active followed by 8GB blank, and then a ~45GB NTFS primary 
partition (which I assume is not formatted). I gather this is how it's 
supposed to turn out, and the C partition is modified later to make the 
size correct.

Anyway, looks like I'll be ghosting these instead, which kind of sucks 
(takes just as long, plus I also have to manually add drivers, join 
domains and rename and stuff).
