I tried the "fix" suggested by Tobias Richter on the NTLDRNotFound page,
by booting the laptop into linux and doing:
echo -e -n "\xf0" |dd of=/dev/sda1 bs=1 seek=26 conv=notrunc
echo -e -n "\xf0" |dd of=/mnt/drive/\$win_nt\$.~bt/bootsect.dat bs=1
seek=26 conv=notrunc
rebooted and the windows install continued.
Now I just need to figure out how to *only* run these commands on the
X60....
