Hi, some known problems, gave - as lately was stated in this list - reason to some colleagues to leave the Unattended way of handling windows setup from "the outside".
In our project of an open source software deployment system we stick to the idea of the Linux managed installation system, oftenly taking advantage of hints from Unattended. We would like to draw a little bit of attention to our system since we think that we overcame most of the lately reported problems with Unattended. "opsi", as we call it (from "open pc server integration") does not only install (Windows and non-Windows) work stations from scratch. It features as well the daily maintenance and supply of work stations with software products and patches. Therefore it integrates a complete administration environment for the configurations of individual or grouped client computers. The configuration database may now, in opsi version 3.1, be file system based or rely on a LDAP server. If anybody is interested in having a look at our system: Complete documentation and binaries (e.g. a complete VMWare demo server) can be downloaded from http://download.uib.de/). There is as well a very active support forum with sourceforge (in German: http://sourceforge.net/forum/?group_id=118398; and a new support forum in English http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=730478).
