On reboot of new computers we just purchased:

This copy of Windows must be activated with Microsoft before you can log
on. Do you want to Activate Windows now?

So much for non-interactive process.

If I say "No", the same dialog box appears again.

If I say "Yes", a see through dialog box appears and if I try to close
it, it turns white.

If I cold-reboot the computer, I get a similar message, but this time
"Yes" works. Only it doesn't seem to be able to activate Windows. I
don't know why not. The first time it appeared to work, but I was asked
to reactivate windows again. The second time I got a non-descriptive
error.

Networking does appear to be working, or at least domain accounts were
created for the computers on the server.

Unfortunately I do not appear to be able to log on to diagnose the
problem in any more detail. Tomorrow I will see if I can try safe mode.

The only thing I can think of is that Windows doesn't like the licence
key I have entered for some reason. They are valid OEM license keys,
straight from the sticker on each computer. I have double checked they
are correct (one had lower case letters instead of upper case - does
that matter)?

Also, I have installed OEM license keys from this same Windows XP set on
other computers.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
