It does work on Thinkpad T61's..

As a side note:
I have seen some Hp laptop BIOSes that reads disk geometry from disk, 
and report that back!
It can be quite confusing if thats the case.
Zeroing out the beginning of the disk will force the BIOS to come up with 
reasonable defaults.
