I have been using unattended 4.3 for a few years now, and it's OK, but I
recently wanted to add support for getting info from a MySQL database, so
I installed 4.8 RC5 alongside it. My server is just a windows 2000
workstation class machine, but it works fine with the 4.3 linux boot disk.

I really like the NT5-install script, and the MySQL features of the new
linux bootdisk, but file copies are god-awful slow. What takes 12 minutes
with 4.3 took me over an hour with 4.8. Of course, there is a big
difference (in the kernel, modules, etc), but I wonder if the biggest
change is that it's using CIFS.

Does anyone have any tips for improving the performance? Has anyone else
even noticed this behavior?
