for creating shortcuts i've been using btewin since before i knew about
unattended...
never thought of using the shortcut.pl script anyway, so can't help you
there, but btewin works fine for me anyway
(beware: the zipfile on the download page for btewin current version
contained a trojan (according to avast anyway) a couple of months back.
if u want i can make a somewhat older version available
