well, you could also configure your cisco switches correctly for this stuff
by setting the ports into portfast mode (sorry, forgot the exact wording..
will look it up asap) -- this will disable spanning tree on that port. +
some other parameter.. that has helped me a lot actually...

but the fix with put an "el-cheapo" generic switch inbetween works ok too.

Something else i've seen is that pxe implementations on Gbit network cards
seem to differ from the one one 100Mbit cards (even if both are of the same
vendor, eg 2 intel NICs), causing massive delays (>30 secs for just getting
the pxegrub or pxelinux bootloader) on the Gbit NICs, whereas on the 100Mbit
NICs the boot process is almost instantaneous...
