They asked her questions about times she was 'stuck,'? 
where she got her ideas, and (this is the part that amazed me--really!) made 
t-t 
connections between her work and their own.? Just one more reason I believe 
that 
this kind of teaching, teaching kids to think, to delve, TO UNDERSTAND, changes 
lives.


These children have internalized the strategy of connections (and probably 
more) well enough to be able to use it automatically in a variety of contexts. 
This is our goal -?to make kids independent metacognitive readers and writers. 
These strategies we are teaching are effective?ways to connect to other content 
and to?make the point - to kids and maybe teachers - that all learning revolves 
around understanding. This is clearly not just about reading - and those of us 
involved in this discussion know that already. Will this book be a key to 
getting teachers who specialize in other content areas?to look at their 
teaching differently? Having read ahead a few chapters, I can see potential for 
that.
