there is the expectation that the readers must take on the responsibilty for 
understanding, then there will be rigor and yes, there will be joy. 
 
Yes, I love this part from Nancy, too, Jennifer, and am reminded of a quote by 
one of my all-time favorite "idols," Lilian Katz,  "Learning isn't supposed to 
be fun; it's supposed to be satisfying."  Lest you wonder how she's describing 
fun, she's defining "fun" here as a Disneyesque, non-rigorous kind of fun.
