Oh, yes!  Listen to your connections to REAL reading!

I love Joy's description of her professor and her learning--and she's right, 
we also must be the receivers of assigned text if we're to truly enter the 
world of books.

Linda, thank you so much for what you wrote!  How I love hearing your 
daughter's friends' exclamations.  And how I love your observation, "I  find 
the "take away" piece to be primarily an emotional attachment that then 
links to a more concrete or cognitive connection."  Oh, yes!  That's a 
keeper!  Brilliant observation!

My students know I love to read and love books and are always trying to 
figure out what is "really" my favorite.  I recently overheard a darling boy 
heatedly whisper to another, "No, you can't tell if she strokes it like 
that--she does that to lots of books."

You've both taken me back to my step one: conversation.  Maybe I want them 
to take away the conversations we've had about books.  Yes, I do.
