my post in response to Judy's post: I need to respond to Judy's post here
because I am probably one of the guiltiest. Being a newbie to listservs and
communication etiquette, I'm sure my inexperience is what caused the trouble on
my part, as well as not knowing what a digest looks like when it's received.
In way of explanation: I started using the form of [SOMEONE:] then [Bev:]
because it seemed more understandable to me. I personally was having a
difficult time figuring out what was originally said and what was responded to
(especially when there was a long string), as well as having a really hard time
navigating through all those annoying little "greater than" signs. Plus, we
had gotten several very sensible requests to eliminate text that wasn't being
replied to.
So, to me, I was actually doing a favor for the reader by making my responses
to posts clearer, as defined by my own limited internet communication
experience. When I responded to posts with the [Peter said: ] I actually
thought I was making things easier to read, thereby allowing more of the
reader's mind to remain on the message rather than the format. I guess the
fallacy in my thinking is that not everyone's mind runs in the same direction.
So...I will attempt to do it "within the rules" now.
Judy's post: I'll try to respond in paragraphs instead of my old offensive
style and hope that works better for you all. Please let me know if this is
less confusing.
