I join both of you as members of the arrive early, stay late club! Incremental
change is the way to go, as is enlisting the help of your TA if you have one. I
had my TA check that homework was completed, and provided my students with time
to read and respond to each other's reading response logs.) Setting a timer and
telling others your goal helps (many of my friends understand my goal, and are
willing to help by not stopping by my room unless necessary, and keeping
conversations short.)

I've done better this year, actually managing to leave school most days before
5, and I stayed away most weekends! I am guilty of putting in extra hours when
special projects or events come up, and I stayed late everytime report cards
were due (We don't give grades, our report cards are narrative reports on each
child's strengths, weaknesses, and progress. It takes between 1 - 1 1/2 hours
to write each one.)

Good luck if this is your goal.
