Hi Melissa, I think you make a change when you know you are not or cannot grow where you are. Having others that share your teaching convictions can be a truly inspiring experience. Over the last few years I was lucky enough to share teaching and thinking space with other like minded teachers and we all grew exponentially as a result. Now I am moving to a new school and a new grade because I came to realize that would be the best move for further growth. It is both a decision and a leap of faith. If you are asking these questions it probably means you need to take the leap:) Bonita > You posed two questions about getting students to dwell in the text and > about how to involve them in the "noticings." Natalie, my art ed. junior in > college, has proposed that she come to visit my 4th grade classroom next > fall on a weekly basis. She suggested that the kids start keeping "idea > books" similar to her artist's sketch books. In the books they would be free > to notice things about which they are interested, comment on class goings > on, sketch pictures, make lists, pose questinos, glue articles or pictures > in, etc. The books would be ungraded, yet each week she and I would share > our "idea books" and then sit in comfy chairs and read the kids books. LEslie, I just love this idea and would like to do it as well--let's share a little into the year how our "thinking/idea books are working out! :)Bonita > I loved your idea of finding 3 things in a book on which to focus. what > grade level do you teach? > Leslie Wright Hi Leslie and welcome! I have been teaching for fifteen years at 4-6th but next year I start anew at 2nd and 3rd. :)Bonita _______________________________________________ Understand mailing list [email protected] http://literacyworkshop.org/mailman/listinfo/understand_literacyworkshop.org
