Itu kalau dihitung mulai munculnya program D3. Tapi perlu diingat sebelum muncul program D3, program keahlian teknik kimia, teknik mesin, teknik perkapalan, teknik elektro dan teknik sipil dulu itu berada di bawah naungan APTN, terus berubah menjadi ATN terus berubah menjadi PAT Undip. Saya masih ingat APTN itu dulu menjadi program bergengsi di Semarang lho. (Malah punya radio segala.)
Sayangnya usulan menjadikan Institut Negeri Teknologi Semarang ditolak. Dengan alasan yang sangat tidak masuk akal yakni bahwa satu kota hanya boleh ada satu PTN. Padahal Bandung kok nggak. Entahlah petinggi ATN dulu kok bisa kalah suara. Anyway, kalau dilihat dari sejak kemunculan APTN malah D3 itu bisa jadi lebih tua lho dari pada S1 Undip. Setahu saya program Sarjana teknik Kimia itu khan didirikan sekitar akhir tahun 1960 an. Sementara APTN didirikan sekitar awal 1960 an. Kampusnya dulu mungkin lebih megah dari program sarjana Undip. Sayangnya sekarang jadi SMP. Mau tau dimana? Kampus APTN ada diperempatan Jl. Ki Mangun Sarkoro dan Jl. Seroja. Dekat kampung kali. Sementara program sarjana Undip menyewa samping bioskop Gelora (yang katanya sekarang sudah jadi Mall ya?). Namun karena wolak walik jaman program-program APTN diabsorbsi menjadi program D3 Undip. Silakan dilengkapi bagi yang tahu.
