plenty of people responded about trade-offs between utf-8 page size and conversion overhead - there is one more thing: scsu would work well as an html/xml encoding and is easily decoded without bulky tables. it can be similarly compact to language-specific codepages. so, how do we get scsu support into ie 6 and netscape 7? markus scsu is defined in http://www.unicode.org/unicode/reports/tr6/ and is registered as a charset with iana
