Time to reveal my secret source (I had to look hard !), in the FAZ (2nd of March, I think) a certain Renate Kosterlitz writing from Zwingenberg says : "Unter »allen lebenden nichtslawischen Sprachen Europas« gibt es außer dem Hessischen sehr wohl noch -- mindestens -- eine, die den vertrackten »schtsch«-Laut kennt, nähmlich das Rätoromanische. Dort wird der Laut »s-ch« gerschrieben." I therefore conclude from what you wrote before that sch is pronounced "sh" and, if this reader of the FAZ is to be believed, s-ch is pronounced "shtsh" (may be only in this variety of Romanche).
