1. This "names vs. names of names" thing reminds me of people who confuse numbers with
numerals. A number is a quantity. A numeral is a symbol for a quantity. Like the
difference between a 30-pound stone and the numeral "30" on a scale.
2. I have seen Hanzi in running English text. This is a feature not to be objected
against. Like if I do this. Please excuse the sjis or whatever it is; I can't figure
out the Hanzi index for the life of me!

For the 97% of you who wouldn't know a Hanzi from a hole in the ground, just use the
romaji. For the rest of us, we have the Hanzi.
Speaking of Japanese surnames, I was on one site that listed a lot of beautiful
Japanese ladies' names. I was thinking, "Sakura, Sakura, Sakura, Sakurai, Sakurai,..."
and "Takahashi, Takahashi, Takahashi,..." there were LOTS of duplicates. Their system
was ideal: aiueo order for the names, unambiguous romaji (うきょう-->Ukyoh)...
but is Marilyn (まりりん）really a Japanese name??
