Which one? What are the common elements? (I have never checked this myself.) >also should be analyzed as a featural syllabary, in >my opinion. I concur. I've no idea if it will be of interest, but I have an old (1998-01-03) paper, "Features of the world's scripts" at http://www.evertype.com/standards/iso15924/document/n02.html. In that contribution I used the following terms: alphabetic, consonantal (i.e. abjad), syllabic (which included the abugidas and the true syllabaries), ideographic, and mixed (cuneiform and hieroglyphic). Perhaps I should revisit that document and update it. -- Michael Everson *** Everson Typography *** http://www.evertype.com 15 Port Chaeimhghein ochtarach; Baile tha Cliath 2; ire/Ireland Telephone +353 86 807 9169 *** Fax +353 1 478 2597 (by arrangement)
